Beneath the Surface: This collage series is an homage to the flowers that come back every year and how they are sustained in the seasons. I wanted to create a series that told the story of what is happening beneath the soil’s surface. Questions came to mind like: How does energy get used and stored? How do the root systems get nourished? How do plants help each other? These questions are all active things occurring daily in nature that we can’t see.

In this body of work, the process of creating these deconstructed flowers rising from their source has been a fantastic journey. The collage process itself became a meditation and a dance. It was calming and invigorating. When I placed one color next to another, it was just so magical. I allowed my intuition to take over and guide the creative process for each piece.
