New Studio Space - A True Gift
The kitchen table is where a lot of us emerging artists create artwork. Unfortunately, that puts us smack dab in the middle of children, pets, cooking, cleaning and many other distractions. I’ve been dreaming of a dedicated studio space for a few years now. Enter the basement space…duh-da-duhhh. We have a 900 square-foot space downstairs that has accumulated “stuff” (please listen to George Carlin’s bit on stuff, it’s brilliant) over the 20+ years I’ve been living here. My kids are 17 and 19 now, so Barbies, Candyland and Legos are no longer needed. Who am I kidding, Legos are always needed! The space looked like something out of “Hoarders”. It contained more beads, dolls, books, crafts and DVD movies than they would have used in a lifetime.
So, as a surprise, while I was on vacation, my son decided to clean out half of the basement and create an amazing art space for me and a study area for my two kiddos - complete with a mini fridge, lol. He found my old art table from college in the garage and put it together. He framed some of my artwork and styled my table and the mirrored wall. He organized my art supplies and canvases. It’s stunning and I’m so blessed, to say that I was touched and humbled is an understatement. Moved to tears, a great big bear hug was all I could offer him.
Fast-forward to the present: Every night we are downstairs chitchatting, listening to music or having friends over. It’s perfect for our small family of three + Jeremy, our cat and Orio, our dog. We enter this wonderful space and down go the walls of separation and giggles and camaraderie ensue.
Thank you, Robert, for doing this for me. I cannot express what it has given me in my heart, mind and soul. Being a mother to you and Jules has been the highest privilege in my life and I love you to the moon and back.
